The spin room at The Den Waialua

Spin — 45 minutes

Music loud enough to hide in.

Rhythm-based indoor cycling in a dark room. You ride to the beat, nobody can see you, and 45 minutes disappears.

What is spin at The Den?

A 45-minute rhythm-based indoor cycling class in a dark room at The Den Waialua. You ride in time with the music rather than chasing numbers on a screen, you set your own resistance the whole way through, and the bikes take clip-in shoes. All levels — the only thing separating a hard ride from an easy one is how far you turn the dial.

What a ride is like

Rhythm cycling means you ride in time with the music rather than chasing a number on a screen. Climbs, sprints, and stretches where the whole room is moving together.

You control your own resistance the entire time. Turn it down whenever you want — the room is dark and the music is loud. You can disappear into it.

If you have never clipped into a bike before, come a few minutes early and we will set your seat and show you how the shoes work.

Rhythm riding, not metrics

Some studios put a leaderboard on the wall and rank the room by watts. We do not. Here the beat is the target: the whole room climbs together, sprints together, and comes out of the saddle together. It is a musical experience more than a numerical one, which is why people who hate competitive gyms tend to be fine in here.

The practical upside is that you cannot fall behind. If the pack is sprinting and you need to sit down, you sit down. Nobody sees it, and no screen records it.

Your first ride

Arrive ten minutes early. We will set your seat height, show you how to clip in and out, and get you settled before the lights drop. Tell us at the desk that it is your first ride and we will sort the shoes out with you — nobody expects you to arrive knowing how any of it works.

Bring water and a sweat towel; we do not provide towels. Nothing else. Unlike yoga you need no mat, and unlike the reformer you need no grip socks. There are showers, lockers and changing rooms downstairs.

A drop-in is $27.99, and community classes taught by our teachers in training are $12.50 — the cheapest way to find out whether a dark room and loud bass is your thing.

What to do afterwards

Spin is upstairs and the Recovery Den is directly below it. Most people ride, then go straight into the sauna and the ice. The Health Bar is in the lobby on your way out.
